Published: January 27, 2010
Five Silo High School students attended a Junior Achievement Company management training program Thursday, Jan. 21, in the board of director's room at Landmark Bank, 900 West Main St., Durant. The newly elected Junior Achievement Company officers are Brittainy Rogers, president; Taylor Roy, vice president of marketing; Jackie McMichaels, vice president of human resources; Amanda Price, vice president of finances; and Paige Thomas, vice president of production. Mike Tuttle, Silo Economics/ Junior Achievement teacher, conducted the training. Shon Aguero, Durant Landmark Bank president, Jim Vidmar, Landmark Bank marketing manager, and Shyla Whitlock, Durant Landmark Bank assistant vice president, assisted Tuttle in the training. Whitlock also serves as a volunteer consultant for the Silo Junior Achievement class. Prior to moving to Durant this school year, Tuttle taught Junior Achievement classes in Cushing, Okla., for nine years. With the support and guidance of volunteer consultants from the local business community, the JA Company Program provides basic economic education for high school students. By organizing and operating an actual business enterprise, students not only learn how businesses function, they also learn about the structure of the U. S. free enterprise system and the benefits it provides. This is the first year for a Junior Achievement/ Economics class at Silo.
