Course Description:        In this course, students will prepare for both college-level English and composition classes and the ACT test. The students will focus on increasing skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. These areas will be addressed using ACT practice questions and various literary genres including but not limited to poetry, short stories, novels, and dramas.

Novels and Plays:           Include The Crucible, The Works of Edgar Allan Poe, Of Mice and Men

Writing:                            Students will write using several different formats, including but not limited to                                                                                 essays, literary analyses, and poems.

Grading:                           Students will receive at least two grades per 4-day week, with a 9 week total of                                                         approximately 1000 points. District grading policies will be followed, including                                                                                 the use of Accelerated Reader at 12 points required per 9 weeks.

Classroom Rules:             Students are expected to complete work in a timely manner and exhibit the                                                                                    highest degree of academic honesty and effort. 

                                          School policy will be followed in regard to food, drinks, and electronics.

                                          Students are to maintain order and follow decorum at all times.
